This is a general art and design course, which allows learners to gain experience and skills in a wide range of specialisms to include: fine art, graphic design, textiles, photography, 3D studies, ceramics and contextual studies. The syllabus is dynamic and wide-ranging, offering many exciting opportunities for you to use your imagination and creativity. Drawing ability and practical skills are essential, whilst good computer skills are also important. You will need an eye for shape and colour, good analytical skills and a willingness to experiment, as well as commitment and perseverance. This is a Level 3 course, which is equivalent to 3 A Levels. It consists of 5 core units plus 12 or more specialist units.

Entry Requirements

Students must possess one of the following:
+ Four GCSEs at A*-C, to include an Art and Design-related subject, plus Maths and English/Welsh
+ Five GCSEs at A*-C if only Maths or English/Welsh is achieved
+ Level 2 BTEC Diploma in a related subject at Merit Grade or above.
All students also need to present a satisfactory portfolio of practical work at interview.
 

Career Prospects

This qualification will help learners to enter higher level courses, e.g. Higher National Diploma and Degree courses. Preparation for employment in the field of Art and Design.

Assessment

The year starts with shorter activities and assignments which progress in length and complexity as the course develops. You will be assessed frequently at the end of each assignment and given guidance on how to improve grades in future work.
