The Film and Theatre industry in Wales is continuously growing and thriving. Production companies  are looking for prospective employees with a certain skill set and this course is designed to provide you with these skills.

Students will have the opportunity to work within a professional context in the college’s Nidum Theatre giving the opportunity to work on ‘Live’ projects.  There will be numerous opportunities for involvement in projects with Performing Arts students from other areas in the College theatre, as well as opportunities to work with Media Studies students who regularly make films as part of their courses.  

 Students will explore the following areas:

  • Scenic Construction for the stage
  • Scenic Painting
  • Designing costume for performance
  • Developing Costume Design Skills
  • Props Making
  • Make Up for Performers
  • Make Up Using Prosthetics
  • Production Arts Planning
  • Production Management for Live Performance.

 

 

Entry Requirements

  • 5 GCSE’s at A* - C , to include Maths or English/Welsh is achieved.
  • Level 2 BTEC Diploma in a related subject at Merit Grade or above.
  • All students also need to present a satisfactory portfolio of practical work at interview.

Career Prospects

This qualification will allow students to pursue employment as stage crew, assistant designer, a scenic artist or an assistant manager in performing arts venues and TV & Film productions. Alternatively this qualification provides progression to Higher Education in courses such as Film Set and Television Design, Costume & Performance Design, Make Up and Special Effects for Television and Film.
