Foundation Degree Sports Coaching and Development

This programme will suit students who wish to pursue a career in the sports coaching industry. This could include working within the sports development industry, the health and fitness industry, strength and conditioning or performance analysis.

Modules include: Fundamentals of Coaching Children, Introduction to Sports Coaching, Introduction to Sports Science for Coaching, Research Methods, Sports Coaching and Leadership and Work Based Learning.

You will be required to undertake a work placement as part of this programme.

Entry Requirements

Entry criteria detail a typical offer but the College considers all applications on an individual basis which means that we could make offers based on qualifications, personal profile and experience. If you have any queries regarding your offer please contact our Admissions Team.

Typical offer: 2 A Levels at D grade or MP/PPP profile from a BTEC Level 3 qualification and three GCSEs at Grade C or above, to include English and Maths (or equivalent qualifications).

You may be able to demonstrate or have certificated prior learning that can be legitimately used to establish a later entry point into the course or provide exemption from modules. If you believe this is the case please contact the Course leader as soon as possible to discuss a recognition of prior learning application.

Career Prospects

The recognised progression route for this programme is the BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching.

Graduates have employment prospects in sports coaching, for example: community coach, school coach, 5 x 60 officer, sports instructors, sports specific coach, sports development officer and the wider health and fitness industry.

This programme is awarded by the University of South Wales.


The programme will include lectures, seminars, practical workshop and tutorial sessions. You will have to complete presentations, practical assessments and written assignments as you progress through the programme. There are some modules that require an exam.

You are required to provide sufficient stationery for to support your teaching and learning. Printing charges are 0.02p per black and white A4 and 0.06p for a colour A4. On enrolment you are allocated 3.00 for printing costs on your student ID card. Additional credits can be purchased in the libraries

The expectation is that students arrange the work placements themselves so any costs will depend on where you arrange to work. This may influence your decisions on the placements you choose. Sports kit - optional purchase.
