Professional Certificate in Education

The Professional Certificate in Education is for you if you have a subject qualification looking to gain a nationally recognised teaching qualification to work in further education and the broader post-compulsory sector.

On the course you will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of successful practice in Post-compulsory Education and your confidence as a professional practitioner.

Entry Requirements

A Level 3 qualification relevant to the subject specialism and GCSEs at Grade C or above including English and Maths.

You must be teaching groups of post 16 learners in an approved environment throughout the programme, e.g. FE, adult education, voluntary sector or publicly funded training provider.

You may be able to demonstrate or have certificated prior learning that can be legitimately used to establish a later entry point into the course or provide exemption from modules. If you believe this is the case please contact the Course leader as soon as possible to discuss a recognition of prior learning application.

Career Prospects

Graduates have employment prospects in further and adult education, for example: teacher, lecturer, post 16 teaching assistant or study coach.

This programme is awarded by the University of South Wales.

Assessment

The programme will include lectures, seminars, tutorial and practical workshops. You are required to have a substantial teaching practice placement in both years of study. You will have to complete written assignments, practical assessments, reflective journals and a poster presentation as you progress through the programme. Your teaching will be observed during both academic years.

You are required to provide sufficient stationery for to support your teaching and learning. Printing charges are 0.02p per black and white A4 and 0.06p for a colour A4. On enrolment you are allocated 3.00 for printing costs on your student ID card. Additional credits can be purchased in the libraries

An additional cost for this programme is a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. You will need to complete a DBS application form and provide documents to prove your identity. Payment is required at or before enrolment.

This programme requires a teaching placement(s). They may incur travelling costs. The expectation is that students arrange the teaching placements themselves so any costs will depend on where you arrange to work. This may influence your decisions on the placements you choose.
