Foundation Degree in Rural Business (Sustainable Food) Levels 4 and 5

The course is designed for those with existing Level 3 qualifications who wish to progress further with the management of their own agricultural businesses or who wish to progress into higher level management positions within the industry.

The course will require attendance at college for 1 day per week over 2 years with the remainder of the time spent at a suitable workplace which may be the learnerís own business. The workplace may also be used to provide evidence for case study work and the Applied Project. It is expected that the learner will undertake a significant amount of self-study in addition to the college attendance.

Modules in year 1 include Soils and the Rooting Environment, Health, Safety and Welfare for Rural Business, Rural Business Practice, Habitat Management, Introduction to Food Technology and either Crop Management and Planning or Animal Diets. In year 2, Rural Diversification, Supply Chain Management and Marketing, Applied Project, Crop Protection and either Sociology of Food or Advanced Animal Management.

Entry Requirements

Entry criteria detail a typical offer but the College considers all applications on an individual basis which means that we could make offers based on qualifications, personal profile and experience. If you have any queries regarding your offer please contact our Admissions Team.

Typical offer: A good GCSE profile to include Maths and English/Welsh at Grade C or above. An existing Level 3 qualification in one of the land-based areas.

You may be able to demonstrate or have certificated prior learning that can be legitimately used to establish a later entry point into the course or provide exemption from modules. If you believe this is the case please contact the Course leader as soon as possible to discuss a recognition of prior learning application.

Progress to a BSc Degree in a similar subject area or obtain a management position within the industry.

You are required to provide sufficient stationery for to support your teaching and learning. Printing charges are 0.02p per black and white A4 and 0.06p for a colour A4. On enrolment you are allocated £3.00 for printing costs on your student ID card. Additional credits can be purchased in the libraries
