HND Public Services

This programme will suit students who wish to develop the knowledge and understanding of public services both uniformed and non-uniformed.

Modules include: Small-scale research projects in Public Services (PS) ,organisations and behaviour in the PS,Government, decision making and the PS, Health and Safety Management in the PS personal outdoor skills, custodial care services in the PS, Fair treatment in the PS, emergency planning technology and the PS, Aspects of criminal law, crime reduction and Community Safety, Justice & Punishment and Personal and Professional Development.

in the second year students will also be able to complete the Certificate in Knowledge of Policing (CKP) and will have the option to complete the Security Industry Authority Security Licence (at an additional cost) which allows holders to legally work in the security and events industry.

Entry Requirements

Entry criteria detail a typical offer but the College considers all applications on an individual basis which means that we could make offers based on qualifications, personal profile and experience. If you have any queries regarding your offer please contact our Admissions Team.

Typical offer: 2 A Levels at E grade or PP/PPP profile from a BTEC Level 3 qualification and five GCSEs at Grade C or above, to include English and Maths (or equivalent qualifications).

You may be able to demonstrate or have certificated prior learning that can be legitimately used to establish a later entry point into the course or provide exemption from modules. If you believe this is the case please contact the Course leader as soon as possible to discuss a recognition of prior learning application.

Career Prospects

The recognised progression route for this course is the BA Hons Public Services - top up degree (1 year)

Graduates have employment prospects in a wide range of public service disciplines, for example, Armed Forces Officer such as Weapons Officer- Royal Navy, Physical Training Officer-Royal Air Force, Supply & Logistics Officer- British Army, Police Officer, Prison Officer, Fire fighter, NBS/Paramedic, UK Border Agency Officer and management level positions in the non-uniformed public services such as working for a local authority and many others.

You are required to provide sufficient stationery for to support your teaching and learning. Printing charges are 0.02p per black and white A4 and 0.06p for a colour A4.
