BA (Hons) Hotel and Catering Management

This programme will suit students wishing to develop a broad range of hospitality, events and business skills. It will provide you with the necessary knowledge and insight to develop an understanding of managing hospitality and catering organisations more effectively.

Modules include Hospitality and Guest Services, Marketing Essentials, Accounting Fundamentals, Managing Festivals, Conventions and Events, Applied Personal and Professional Development, Management and Organisational Behaviour, Rooms Division Management and Introduction to Hospitality Tourism and Events. In year 3 you will study Principles of Gastronomy, Organisational Consultancy, Developing Niche Markets, On Licensed Premises Management, Strategic Food and Beverage Management and Contemporary Themes in Tourism, Hospitality and Events.

Entry Requirements

Entry criteria detail a typical offer but the College considers all applications on an individual basis which means that we could make offers based on qualifications, personal profile and experience. If you have any queries regarding your offer please contact our Admissions Team.

Typical offer: 1 A Level at C grade, 2 A levels at E grade or MP/PPP profile from a BTEC Level 3 qualification and five GCSEs at Grade C or above, to include English and Maths (or equivalent qualifications).

You may be able to demonstrate or have certificated prior learning that can be legitimately used to establish a later entry point into the course or provide exemption from modules. If you believe this is the case please contact the Course leader as soon as possible to discuss a recognition of prior learning application.

Career Prospects

You may progress to a postgraduate hospitality related programme.

Graduates have employment prospects in hospitality and catering disciplines, for example: weddings and banquet planning, food and beverage manager, restaurant manager, corporate hospitality and conference and banqueting manager.

Assessment

The programme will include lectures, fieldwork, practical and tutorial sessions. You will usually have to complete portfolios, presentations and written examinations as you progress through the programme.

You are required to provide sufficient stationery for to support your teaching and learning. Printing charges are 0.02p per black and white A4 and 0.06p for a colour A4. On enrolment you are allocated 3.00 for printing costs on your student ID card. Additional credits can be purchased in the libraries
