HND in Sport (Coaching and Sports Development)



This exciting new programme will suit students who wish to develop the knowledge and understanding of sports coaching and development.

Modules include: Anatomy & Physiology for Sport and Exercise, Principles of Sports Coaching, Sport and Exercise Psychology, Research Project, Nutrition for Sport and Exercise, Analysis of Sports Performance, Training and Fitness for Sport and Exercise, The Evolution of Sports Development, Work-based Experience and Sport & Exercise Rehabilitation.

Learning and Teaching Methods

Students will learn through a series of lectures, practical sessions, seminars and tutorials. They will also be required to undertake substantial independent study supported by the colleges Virtual Learning Environment Moodle.



Entry Requirements

  • 80 UCAS tariff points from A Levels or Level 3 equivalent qualifications.
  • GCSEs at Grade C or above, including English and Maths (or equivalent qualifications).
  • BTEC Higher National qualifications are accredited on the QCF for learners aged 18 years and over.

The College welcomes applications from motivated applicants from all backgrounds. We recognise that student potential is not always demonstrated within formal academic qualifications and welcome applications from individuals from backgrounds that are under-represented within higher education.

You may be able to demonstrate or have certificated prior learning that can be legitimately used to establish a later entry point into the course or provide exemption from modules. If you believe this is the case please contact the Course leader as soon as possible to discuss a recognition of prior learning application.

Career Prospects

The recognised progression route for this course is the BA Hons Sports Coaching and Performance - top up degree (1 year)

Graduates have employment prospects in a wide range of sport and exercise disciplines, for example, sports coaches, sports development officers, PE teachers, sports lecturers, sports management, personal trainers and many others.

The assessment of BTEC Higher National qualifications is criterion-referenced and centres are required to assess learners’ evidence against published learning outcomes and assessment criteria. You will usually have to complete portfolios, presentations, practical activities and written reports as you progress through this course. All units will be individually graded as ‘pass’, ‘merit’ or ‘distinction’.
