Time to Change

NPTC Group of Colleges has officially pledged its support to the national campaign ‘Time to Change Wales’ in a bid to end the discrimination linked to mental illness.

By signing the ‘Time to Change Wales’, the College will have a great opportunity to raise awareness of mental health problems with staff and students.

Signing the pledge, Mark Dacey, CEO of NPTC Group of Colleges, said:

“NPTC Group of Colleges is proud to sign the employer pledge and fully supports the aims of ‘Time to Change Wales’. We are committed to challenging the stigma attached to mental illness and the ‘Time to Change’ pledge represents our commitment to supporting a culture of openness at the College, where talking about mental health and other issues are no longer taboo.’’

‘Time to Change Wales’ is the first national campaign to end the stigma and discrimination faced by people with mental health problems.  It is delivered by three leading mental health charities: Gofal, Hafal and Mind Cymru.  One in four people will experience problems with their lives and the stigma and discrimination that people experience can make life with a mental health problem even more difficult than the condition itself. This is why ‘Time to Change Wales’ campaigns to end the stigma and improve knowledge and understanding of mental health in Wales.

Lowri Wyn Jones, Programme Manager for ‘Time to Change Wales’, said: “Time to Change Wales brings together inspirational people with lived experiences of mental health problems to work for social change – to end discrimination and stigma around mental health problems. More working days are lost to stress, anxiety and depression than any other illness, looking after your staff has never been more important than it is now.

“We are thrilled to have NPTC Group of Colleges sign the pledge and join the other health boards in Wales in their commitment to reduce the stigma of mental health in the workplace and we hope that through signing this pledge it can make a huge difference in reducing the discrimination faced by people in Wales with mental health problems.”
