Blooming Marvellous!

Congratulations to the NPTC Group of Colleges’ horticulture department which picked up a Large Gold Medal for its garden design at the Royal Welsh Spring Festival in Builth Wells this weekend.

Thousands of visitors flocked to the event and the garden attracted scores of admirers. It scooped a prize of £350 for the garden which was based on a Yin Yang design.

Richard Williams, lecturer for Horticulture, was delighted with the win and explained the inspiration behind the garden’s winning design.

“The design was based on the Yin Yang symbol using various plants and flowers in different colours to symbolise both sides of the circle and create a feeling of balance; we also wanted to create a space that you could walk through to enjoy all aspects of the garden.

“It’s just fantastic for the team to receive a large gold medal. Many of the plants and flowers featured were grown in the College Nursery by our horticulture students. We have also been very lucky as the recent spell of good weather has been brilliant news for our plants.

“We are now looking forward to going back to Builth in July for the Royal Welsh Summer Show.”

Neath College has an exciting range of full- and part-time gardening and horticulture courses available for all those budding gardeners.
